Foodies — Girlfriend Getaway Part 3

You and your girlfriends are probably diehard foodies. So where do you go while you’re all staying at the Extreme Hotel Cabarete? You’re in luck because some of these recommended local restaurants are just minutes away.

Are you ready for a culinary adventure?

Foodies — Girlfriend Getaway: La Mesa Taina

The great thing about this place is that it’s mere steps away from the Extreme Hotel. They offer breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner, all with an amazing view of the beach. It’s a great place to sit in the morning and enjoy your coffee or fresh smoothie. Or, a great spot for you and your group of girls to enjoy a scrumptious dinner. The seating is designed for large groups, so there will always be enough space. The sushi is fabulous and fresh, and will look awesome in those snaps for the ‘gram. Good sushi on the beach? What’s better? Add a fresh organic mojito or 2-for-the-price-of-1 during happy hour, and it sounds like an easy and enjoyable girls’ night!

Foodies — Girlfriend Getaway Part 3: La Chabola

Pizza! Better yet, 2-for-1 pizza. This casual local restaurant actually translates to ‘The Shack’, which is actually the cool part. It’s a fairly large shack, but small in comparison to most restaurants. Their stone-baked pizzas are the perfect size to have your own, so share a 2×1 with a friend, or have leftovers for tomorrow. Their menu has all the toppings clearly described, so you aren’t left wondering what’s on your pizza. They also serve wines, beers, and their own home-made kombucha. And if you’re into live local music, they have open mic night on Wednesdays. Get there early to get a seat because it fills up quickly. Fair warning: it can be pretty loud on those nights. Keep in mind, too, that they are not open on Mondays. To get to La Chabola, I suggest taking a moto, because of the distance.

Foodies — Girlfriend Getaway Part 3: Gorditos

Taco Tuesdays, anyone? Gorditos has fresh Mexican food that will awaken your taste buds. They also offer amazing burritos, bowls, chips, and more!

Foodies — Girlfriend Getaway Part 3: Chimichangas

Chimichangas caters to meat eaters, vegetarians, pescatarians, and vegans. The staff is easy-going and willing to help out with your specific food needs. Grab a beer and hang out outside while enjoying your fresh mex. Did I mention that the guacamole is amazing? Put it on everything! To get to this restaurant, walk along the beach, and take the Millennium Resort exit. Turn left, and head down the main street. It will be on the same side as the beach.

Foodies — Girlfriend Getaway Part 3: Comedor Mini Miguel

Comedor Mini Miguel is owned by a lovely Dominican family. It’s not fancy, but they serve good home-made hot meals daily for lunch. The food is traditional Dominican Republic dishes. White rice, fried rice, beans, cooked eggplant, mangú (mashed plantains), tons of meat, salad, and so much more. Their food options change daily, but there’s so much goodness, you’ll always find something tasty to try. The price is based on what you eat. Ask beforehand, because some things cost extra, like extra meat, fish, yuka balls, and other items. You can also stock up on fresh fruits and veggies at their fruit stand. Comedor Mini Miguel is located right across the street from Kite Beach Inn.

Hopefully, you’ll enjoy these local restaurants, which have their own unique vibe. With all the activities I covered in the first blog post, you’ll definitely be craving fuel for your body, so that you can continue your adventurous vacation at the Extreme Hotels.

This is the final instalment in the Girlfriend Getaway series. Catch up on the first two posts here and here.
